Carlos Alcaraz Wins Match of the Year, Becomes Odds-On US Open Favorite

The tennis match of 2022 was played in the wee hours of Thursday night and Friday morning, and the end result is an odds-on US Open favorite.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner played one of the most remarkable matches you’ll ever see, finishing around 3 a.m. ET on Thursday after all was said and done.

The 19-year old saved a match point in the fourth set and recovered break deficits three times across the final two sets to win 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

When facing match point in the fourth set, Alcaraz was +1300 to beat Sinner, but he recovered by rattling off three points in a row and ultimately emerging victorious. The level of tennis that was played between the two was simply outrageous throughout the match.

Alcaraz entered the evening at +160 to take home the title, but he’s now -120 at FanDuel to become a Grand Slam champion.

The Spaniard will take on American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals. Tiafoe is listed at +410 to become the first American Slam champion since Andy Roddick.

On the other side of the draw, Casper Ruud is +300 to win the tournament while Karen Khachanov – the man who eliminated Nick Kyrgios – is +650.

The other key storyline to monitor is who will emerge as the world No. 1 after the US Open.

If neither Alcaraz nor Ruud progress to the final, Rafael Nadal will reclaim the No. 1 position, but we’ll have a brand new No. 1 if either Alcaraz or Ruud reach the final.

In the event that Ruud and Alcaraz face off against each other in the championship match, we’ll have both a first time Grand Slam champion and a new world No. 1.

There is everything to play for at the final Slam of the year.
