Where to Bet on Sports in West Virginia
On Sept. 1, 2018, West Virginia became the fourth state outside of Nevada to legalize sports betting, following Delaware, New Jersey and Mississippi. Currently there are four sportsbooks that offer sports betting in West Virginia.
Mobile betting is legal in the state, which means bettors can place bets on their phone as long as they’re located within state borders.
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races was the first sportsbook to accept legal bets, offering a soft opening on Aug. 30, 2018 and full-scale betting on Sept. 1, 2018. Hollywood is affiliated with William Hill.
The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs was the next casino to go live. It partnered with DFS giant FanDuel and created a sportsbook inside the Greenbrier called The Casino Club.
West Virginians can also place legal wagers at Mardi Gras Casino and Resort Cross Lanes in Charleston and Wheeling Island Hotel Casino and Racetrack in Wheeling.
The next casino expected to offer betting is the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort. It is currently waiting for approval.
