The Erik Karlsson sweepstakes ended on Thursday when the San Jose Sharks acquired the generational defenseman from the Ottawa Senators for forwards Chris Tierney and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, prospect Josh Norris, and a conditional 2019 second-round selection and a conditional 2020 first-round draft selection.
The impact of the trade was immediate at the Westgate Superbook as they shortened San Jose’s Stanley Cup odds from 20-1 ($100 wins $2,000) to 12-1 ($100 returns $1,200).
In terms of implied probability, the Sharks went from having a 4.75% chance of winning the Stanley Cup to 7.7% after the trade.
Tampa Bay remains the Stanley Cup favorite at +700 with Toronto (+800), Vegas (+1000), Nashville (+1000), Boston (+1000), Washington (+1000), Winnipeg (+1000), Pittsburgh (+1200) and now San Jose rounding out the top of the board.
Elsewhere in the futures market, the Sharks are +600 to win the Western Conference — behind only Vegas (+500), Winnipeg (+500) and Nashville (+500) — and +275 to win the Pacific Division. The Golden Knights are the current favorite to win the Pacific at +175.
