We’ve got ourselves a meteorological update, folks. My initial forecast called for a chance of snow during today’s Arizona Cardinals-Green Bay Packers game (1 p.m. ET, FOX).
Now, we know for sure. Instead of mostly falling before the game, we’ll almost surely be seeing some light, but steady snowfall after kickoff at Lambeau.
Along with the updated forecast, a steady flow of hot soft cash has led to line moves on both the spread and over/under.
In the early stages of the week, the Packers were -14.5 at the majority of books before moving to -14 on Tuesday.
The market remained quiet until Saturday night, when the line dipped below 14 for the first time all week. The Cards are getting 35% of bets, but 55% of the money.
The total, which had seen some line movement on the under from the get-go, has continued to drop as we’ve gotten closer to game time.
With a more concrete forecast, we now know that snow will be falling during the game rather than just before it, as some early forecasts were projecting.
The total has dropped from 46 to 42. The over is getting a bit more than half the bets, but the under is getting 90% of the cash.
Barring some crazy last minute changes, this will also be the windiest NFL game of the season, with average speeds of 19 mph — a few mph faster than what was projected on Friday — to go with gusts over 30 mph.
Per Bet Labs, there has yet to be a game this year with average wind speeds of more than 14 mph.
As they say in “Game of Thrones” — winter is coming. (I don’t watch the show so I’m not sure if they actually say that or if it’s just some marketing slogan.)
