NCAAF odds as of Saturday morning
South Florida’s Week 1 college football opener against BYU was delayed for 2.5 hours due to weather.
The Bulls may have to gear up to play in some more against Florida in Week 3.
USF vs. Florida weather looks gloomy early, and the Gainesville forecast is hinting at a potential slog when the two meet for the second straight season.
Wind and rain can certainly impact betting odds, as well as the overall product on the field.
We’ll analyze how the USF vs. Florida weather Saturday affects both.
USF vs. Florida Weather
Gainesville was peppered with rain as early as Friday, with an 85% chance of precipitation locally. Weather.com tabbed at least a 50% chance or worse of thunderstorms every day through Monday.
The forecast shows a 59% chance of showers and thunderstorms in Gainesville during Saturday’s early hours, on top of “scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.”
Local winds out of the northeast will blow between 5-10 mph.
Although the chance of precipitation dips to about 25% around kickoff, USF vs. Florida could feature a few scattered showers and perhaps a wet field at none other than The Swamp.
Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson was a problem for the Bulls in last year’s 42-20 win, especially on the ground, where he rang up USF for 115 yards on just three attempts.
PFF dished the dual-threat quarterback an 84.3 rushing grade, which was Richardson’s second-highest mark across any game last year.
If the conditions are at all sloppy, USF ranks 56th in tackling. The Bulls, as 24.5-point underdogs, could potentially get a huge dose of the running game behind Richardson, who’s tied second on the roster with 110 rushing yards.
Montrell Johnson’s the leader in the the Gators clubhouse with 137; Trevor Etienne — who’s tied with Richardson — meanwhile, has been a big-play machine, ripping off a team-high 7.9 yards per carry.
The betting over/under was 59-59.5 early in the week, but money on the over pushed the total up as high as 60.5.
