College Football Bowl Projections Week 13: Brett McMurphy’s Picks & College Football Playoff Predictions

Down the stretch they come: two weeks remain, and there are 64 bowl-eligible teams for the 82 available spots. There are 40 teams still mathematically alive to reach six wins: 24 five-win teams and 16 four-win teams.

It’s impossible to exactly project if there will be enough six-win teams — believe me, I’ve tried — but if there aren’t enough six-win teams, then some teams with five wins will go bowling.

If any teams with 5-7 records are needed to fill any spots, they will be selected based on the program’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) rankings for the 2022-23 school years, the latest data available.

Here’s how the teams rank if they get to five wins and there aren’t enough six-win teams to fill all 82 bowl spots. Teams that are already bowl-eligible or can’t reach five wins are not listed. Records are through Monday.

*Conference champions projected to receive automatic bids

In my projected College Football Playoff field, I have Oregon coming in as the top overall seed as the Big Ten champion, followed by Texas as the SEC champion, Miami as the ACC champion and Colorado as the Big 12 champion.

My No. 12 seed is the highest-ranked remaining conference champion, the Boise State Broncos out of the Mountain West.

In my projected field, the Big Ten and SEC each get three at-large selections: Ohio State, Penn State and Indiana for the Big Ten and Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia for the SEC.

Independent Notre Dame also cracked the field as my No. 7 seed.
