Cam Ward Boosts Heisman Odds, No. 6 Miami Beats Louisville

Once again, Miami battled through a tough conference game to remain unbeaten.

The No. 6 Hurricanes escaped on the road against Louisville in Week 8, pulling out a 52-45 win.

Miami opened as a one-point underdog, but closed as a four-point favorite. The Canes’ seven-point victory ends their two-game losing streak ATS.

Quarterback Cam Ward further extended his case to win the Heisman Trophy with his performance Saturday. Ward finished 21-for-32 with 319 yards and four touchdowns. He became the first signal-caller in program history to throw for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns in each of the first seven games of a season.

Ward entered the weekend with the third-best odds (+384) to win the Heisman, trailing only Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (+250) and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (+380).

Louisville nearly tied the game with under five minutes left when Ward appeared to fumble the ball, which was returned by Antonio Watts over 65 yards for a touchdown. But after review, officials determined Ward’s arm came forward and called an incompletion on the play.

Running back Damien Martinez scored on a thunderous 30-yard touchdown run a few plays later to help seal the result.

At 7-0 (3-0 in ACC play), Miami is off to its best start since 2017. Coach Mario Cristobal’s program entered the weekend with -235 odds to make the College Football Playoff and +180 odds to miss it.

The Canes have the second-best odds to win the ACC (+160), trailing Clemson (+120) and are tied for the eighth-best odds (+2000) to win the national championship.
