My Arkansas vs Texas Tech Sweet 16 Betting Preview
The Sweet 16 is finally here, and I’m back with more college basketball winners, as I’m 4-1 in my Action article plays.
I’m going to dive into Arkansas vs. Texas Tech, as I have a play against the spread that I locked in.
Let’s start off with the No. 3-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders. This Grant McCasland-led Red Raider team has looked great in this tournament. Although they’ve played two mid-majors, they won both games by double digits.
Darrion Williams has been on a tear in the Big Dance, scoring 41 points across two outings while bringing in 15 rebounds. Williams has been solid this year, and he’s peaking at the right time.
Meanwhile, Arkansas is red hot. Nobody expected this team to make the Sweet 16, especially after it lost its first five SEC games. With that being said, John Calipari’s bunch has won five of its last seven games, and he has his Razorback team peaking at the best time possible.
Johnell Davis has been the X-factor during this tournament, as he has a combined 31 points. We all know that he has great tournament experience from the FAU squad that reached the Final Four.
Yes, Arkansas has had great wins against Kansas and St. John’s, but this run is over. Arkansas is going to have a brutal time scoring on this Texas Tech defense. The Red Raiders are going to take away 3-pointers and will limit paint touches.
How are the Razorbacks going to score? Arkansas is going to have to settle for mid-range jumpers, which isn’t its strong suit. Texas Tech is going to limit offensive opportunities for Arkansas, leaving it to be a “one-and-done” team.
On the other end of the floor, Texas Tech’s offense is too superior for the Razorbacks. Expect Texas Tech to shoot mostly 3s, which will allow players like Kerwin Walton (who made eight 3s versus UNC Wilmington) and Elijah Hawkins to have high scoring games.
Lastly, Arkansas doesn’t rebound the ball well defensively, and that’s where players like JT Toppin and Williams will fill up the stat sheet with those second chance points.
Overall, Texas Tech is a much more well rounded team, and it’s red-hot, winning nine of its last 10 games.
Unless Arkansas can make this game sloppy and win the battle on the glass, I don’t see it being much of a threat.
Don’t be surprised if Texas Tech blows out the Razorbacks and it wins by double-digits. The cute double-digit Sweet 16 run is over for Calipari.
