Derrick Jones saw his role shrink to just 15 minutes in Game 4. With the series going to a critical Game 5 in Denver, I’d expect his playing time to continue to be limited.
Jones had a strong 4-rebound game in Game 1, but has since averaged 1.3 rebounds on 2.7 rebound chances. He spiked a 10-point game in the Game 3 blowout, though half of his production came in garbage time. He also hit two 3-pointers in that game. He’s 0-for-4 from deep in the other three games.
Denver did a better job forcing the Clippers‘ non-shooters to get involved on offense in Game 4. Ty Lue responded with increased roles for Nic Batum and Bogdan Bogdanovic. He seemed comfortable trading the strong defense of Jones and Kris Dunn for the offensive ability of Batum and Bogdanovic.
Jones will likely fall short of 20 minutes if this game stays competitive.

It’s interesting to see this line near even-money in an elimination game. Giannis Antetokounmpo has only averaged 33 minutes over the past two games, but both were blowouts. He only played about half of the 4th quarter in Game 3, with the Bucks pulling away in their only win.
He was out there for about three minutes in the 4th quarter of Game 4, hitting the bench when the Pacers stretched the lead to 20+ points. It’s win or go home for Milwaukee, so I’d expect Antetokounmpo to play 40+ minutes.
Antetokounmpo averaged 11.9 rebounds on 18.0 rebound chances in the regular season. He’s bumped that up to 14.3 rebounds on 19.5 rebound chances in the playoffs.
Giannis has 12+ rebounds in every game of the series. He’s played 40+ minutes in three games this season (including one game in the playoffs) and has averaged 15.7 rebounds in those games.

We hit this in Game 4 at 15.5. It’s moved down a bit but not enough. Kyle Kuzma was irrelevant in Game 4, posting 3 points and 1 assist in 16 minutes. Even with Damian Lillard leaving early, he failed to make an impact.
As I mentioned over the weekend, head coach Doc Rivers hasn’t been shy about making playing-time adjustments. He’s significantly limited Brook Lopez’s role and booted Taurean Prince from the rotation.
Kuzma was in danger of facing a similar fate heading into Game 4, and he played a series-low 16 minutes. Gary Trent Jr., AJ Green, and Kevin Porter Jr. have all been much better than Kuzma. Jericho Sims has emerged as a backup big off the bench.
If Lillard didn’t get hurt, we might’ve seen Porter Jr. or Green start over Kuzma in Game 5. Porter Jr. will likely take Lillard’s spot now, but the leash will be short for Kuzma. Milwaukee can’t afford to mess around down 3-1 in the series.
