Another NBA conference semifinals series will get underway on Monday as the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Miami Heat.
Of course, the most relevant news regarding the series right now is the status of star big man Joel Embiid. The center didn’t travel to Miami for the first two games of the series as he deals with an orbital fracture and a concussion. He was already playing through a ligament issue in his finger.
Evidently Embiid is worth about three points to the spread as this game moved from 4.5 to 7.5 after the news of his absence broke. He’s targeting a game three or four return, but neither game is a guarantee.
The Heat head into this matchup as a one-seed that isn’t really getting a lot of credit.
Miami entered the playoffs as the fourth-favorite to win the Eastern Conference after the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Nets, and now it’s still only tied for the second-shortest odds to win the conference alongside Boston.
Will the Heat continue to dominate in this contest or will the ‘Sixers mount an Embiid-less effort to steal a game away from home? Here’s what the Action Network’s NBA PRO Report has to say.

76ers vs. Heat Pick
No Embiid no problem? Maybe not quite, but we have three indicators of value that are seeing an edge with Philly.
Our Bet Labs data has indicated sharp action has poured in on the 76ers, despite the Heat racking up 62% of the spread bets on the contest.
Additionally, our model projections make the 76ers a 5.6 underdog instead of the market consensus of 7.5. That’s good for a 4.3% edge.
Lastly, one of our top experts is backing Philadelphia to make this game close.
If Philly is able to steal a game in Miami, that would make things really interesting ahead of the return to the city of brotherly love.
PRO Report Pick: Philadelphia 76ers +7.5
