I’m sure this isn’t surprising news, but Saturday night’s NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway is officially in a rain delay.
The Coke Zero Sugar 400 was originally scheduled to go green at 7:17 p.m. ET, however, heavy rain throughout the day has soaked the race track and forced NASCAR officials to delay the start of tonight’s race.
Additionally, lightning has been in the area of Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, further delaying pre-race activity.
So with the Coke Zero Sugar 400 delayed for rain, the key question now revolves around how much more precipitation will fall in Daytona on Saturday night and whether NASCAR can find a dry enough window to dry the track and get the race going.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at the updated NASCAR at Daytona weather forecast, including the chances that the Coke Zero Sugar 400 gets postponed until Sunday afternoon.
NASCAR at Daytona Weather Forecast
According to the National Weather Service, there is some reason for optimism on Saturday night in Daytona.
From 8-10 p.m. ET, there’s a 54% chance of rain at the track, which then dips to 33% at 11 p.m. ET.
It should take a little over two hours for officials to dry the track assuming the rain doesn’t return.
As of 7:06 p.m. ET, FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass tweeted that the rain had picked up at Daytona, so the chances of getting going tonight likely depends on how heavy, and how long, this current shower lasts.
Should the event eventually get postponed, Sunday’s weather forecast is wet as well.
There’s a 70% chance of rain on Sunday afternoon in Daytona, with showers and thunderstorms likely after p.m. ET.
If NASCAR is able to get the race started tonight, but cannot run the full 160-lap distance, the Coke Zero Sugar 400 would be official at the half-way mark of lap 80.
