Toronto’s lineup doesn’t have a bunch of over-aggressive hitters, but they still struggled to work the count this past weekend against Baltimore, averaging fewer than 4 pitches per plate appearance in 3 of the 4 games of that series. Soroka was stretched out to 92 pitches and worked into the 5th inning in his final Spring Training start. Notably, he was at only 48 pitches through 4 innings before things fell apart in the 5th inning, forcing his early exit.

This evening, Soroka should have every opportunity to get through 5 innings given how much he’s stretched out and that teams generally try to avoid over-taxing their bullpen on the first day of a series. This is great value, despite him not having overpowering stuff.
