Jose Quintana has pitched well for Milwaukee, allowing two earned runs or fewer in all but one start.

He’s getting by with a sinker-heavy approach that has yielded plenty of ground balls but minimal strikeouts. Quintana’s strikeout rate has trended down for four straight seasons, bottoming out at 16.8% this year. His SwStr% is a career-low 6.6%, which would be the lowest among qualified starters if Quintana had enough innings to make the list.

The Padres have the fifth-lowest K% vs. left-handed pitchers this season at 19.8%. Tonight’s projected lineup has combined for an 18.7% K% against lefties this season.

RotoGrinders has Gavin Sheets in the Padres’ projected group, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jose Iglesias drew the start tonight. Another righty or two in the lineup would make this an even tougher matchup for Quintana, who is striking out just 15.2% of righties this season.

Workload is another factor.

After spending a few weeks on the IL, Quintana returned on Sunday against Philadelphia. He cruised through five innings, and then he was yanked at 82 pitches.

Quintana has only completed six innings twice in seven starts. Milwaukee has handled him cautiously, which limits his workload upside.

We might only have to sweat five innings.

Orioles starting pitcher Charlie Morton had a rough start to the season.

The veteran has turned it around over his past five appearances, but I’m going to bet on a speed bump tonight in Sacramento.

We have good hitting weather with warm temps and the wind blowing out for an Athletics offense that has the sixth-highest wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

Getting a 2.5 line at reasonable odds for the first 5 innings (F5) in a game with a 10.5 total looks like a good spot to attack.

I’m betting to win 2 units on this one.
