Alex Kolodziej’s Astros vs Mariners Prediction, Betting Analysis
The Seattle Mariners will trot out right-handed pitcher Luis F. Castillo on Wednesday and the best bet for the 4:05 p.m. ET matchup is for Castillo to finish with under 3.5 strikeouts.
The Astros have been overpowered by starting pitching in the early going. They’ve also averaged 10 strikeouts per game — the second-worst clip in the league. However, Wednesday should serve more as batting practice than a chess match for the Astros lineup as Castillo isn’t prone to racking up strikeouts.
The 30-year-old managed four punchouts over 3 2/3 innings in his first start of the season. However, he doesn’t produce a lot of whiffs and won’t often get batters to chase bad pitches. Castillo isn’t necessarily fortified as a surefire starter either. In fact, his spot most will likely be taken by George Kirby when the All-Star pitcher returns from injury.
Castillo’s strikeout line today is over/under 3.5. Some books price the under at -105, some +105. Betting under 3.5 at plus money is a great look based on PRO Projections, which submitted a fair strikeout total shy of 3.4 for Castillo today.
Pick: Luis Castillo Under 3.5 K’s
