Justin Van Zuiden’s Guardians vs Blue Jays Preview
The Blue Jays hit their stride after a big come-from-behind win over the Red Sox earlier this week. They trailed 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth on Wednesday but went on to win 7-6 in extra innings.
Toronto has won three in a row, and I expect the Jays to pull out a fourth consecutive win on Saturday behind starting pitcher Kevin Gausman.
Gausman isn’t the same high-strikeout pitcher he used to be (21% this year, 24% career). Still, he’s a quality Major League pitcher who often pitches deep into games (34 innings in six starts this year, or 5 ⅔ per start).
Gavin Williams will take the mound for Cleveland, and he’s struggling with command this year, posting a whopping 11% walk rate through his first six starts, resulting in a 1.57 WHIP and a 5.14 ERA.
Both offenses are inconsistent, but I trust Toronto’s hot bats more, and I’m ready and willing to back Gausman at home on Saturday.
