Cubs vs Diamondbacks Preview, Prediction
On Friday night, I’m backing the D-backs to get a win behind a strong Merrill Kelly pitching performance.
Kelly has a great track record against the Cubs. In his past two starts, he allowed just one run over the course of 11 innings and also struck out 11 batters. On the opposite end, Cubs starter Jameson Taillon hasn’t pitched at Chase Field since 2018, which I think will have an impact on his performance.
Due to Kelly’s dominance against the Cubs in recent times, I’m also expecting him to allow under 2.5 runs. Most pitchers around the league haven’t gone very deep this early in the season. As a result, the under on Kelly’s runs is less risky than usual.
In a bounce-back game from the Diamondbacks, led by Kelly’s pitching dominance, I predict a 5-2 Diamondbacks victory.
