Justin Van Zuiden’s Orioles vs Red Sox Preview
Perhaps an extra-inning victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday will finally get this Baltimore squad in high gear.
I still believe the Orioles aren’t nearly as poor as their record indicates. They still have plenty of offensive talent, although pitching remains a serious issue.
I don’t trust starting pitcher Cade Povich, but he has respectable advanced metrics behind a decent strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Of greater importance, I think he’s shown better stuff than Red Sox starting pitcher Brayan Bello.
Bello looks terrible, with an underwhelming strikeout-to-walk ratio and worse underlying metrics.
At worst, the pitching matchup is a wash, and I like how the O’s top bats match up against Bello.
So, I’ll take a shot with Baltimore at plus-money for Friday’s Game 1.
