Three Highest Totals

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (103.5) — It’s not much of a surprise that the Dodgers have the highest projected win total after dishing out more than a billion dollars this offseason. Adding Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and more to an already star-studded roster makes them the clear lead dogs.

2. Atlanta Braves (101.5) — The Braves led the majors a year ago with 104 wins. They didn’t stand pat over the offseason, though, swinging trades for Chris Sale and Jared Kelenic to keep pace with the Dodgers.

T-3. Houston Astros (93.5) — Houston’s roster remains largely intact as it didn’t make major additions over the winter. The big news is Joe Espada taking over as manager for the retired Dusty Baker.

T-3. New York Yankees (93.5) — The Yankees swung a major trade for Juan Soto after a disastrous 2023 campaign. They also added Marcus Stroman and have high hopes for last year’s big signing Carlos Rodón after an injury-plagued first year in the Bronx.

Three Lowest Totals

  1. Oakland Athletics (57.5) — Things don’t look bright for an Oakland squad that won only 50 games a year ago. In fact, the only big news swirling around this team is its eventual relocation, where the team will play next year and if its plans to move to Las Vegas remains on track.
  2. Colorado Rockies (60.5) — It’s been a rough few seasons in Colorado, and it’s expected to be a dismal year once again. The Rockies largely stood pat over the offseason, with their biggest move trading for journeyman pitcher Cal Quantrill.
  3. Chicago White Sox (63.5) — Chicago was apparently open for business, with most expecting the White Sox to sell off veteran pieces as part of a much-needed rebuild. Instead it was a quiet winter on the South Side with those considered to be on the block returning, most notably Dylan Cease.

Other Noteworthy Totals

Kansas City Royals (73.5) — The Royals eclipsing this total is Collin Wilson’s best bet as spring training gets under way. Kansas City won just 56 games a year ago, but had a busy offseason. The Royals locked up star third baseman Bobby Witt Jr. with the largest contract in franchise history, and signed Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo to improve a pitching rotation that desperately needed help.

New York Mets (82.5) — The over on Mets wins was one of Jim Turvey’s nine bets to lock in back in January. New York was one of the biggest disappointments a year ago, flaming out despite owning the biggest payroll in MLB history. The Mets’ pitching looks like their weak spot, but they return a potent lineup that was incredibly unlucky at the plate last season.

Tampa Bay Rays (84.5) — Turvey also likes the the Rays in 2024. They won 99 games last season, but dealt away ace Tyler Glasnow and other pieces.  Nonetheless, Tampa Bay seemingly churns out winning season after winning season no matter who it has in uniform.
