Kentucky sports betting will be here right in time for football season.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Monday, July 10, announced plans to jumpstart brick-and-mortar sportsbooks in Kentucky on Sept. 7, with online apps going live three weeks later on Sept. 28.

Sports betting in Kentucky was extremely close to materializing in 2022, to no avail.

HB 551 passed both the House and Senate and was signed by Kentucky governor Andy Beshear back in March 2023. Beshear had mentioned Kentucky sports betting would likely arrive before the start of the football season this fall.

The University of Kentucky, for instance, begins the season on Sept. 2, right on the heels of brick-and-mortar shops going live.

The first NFL game for the 2023 season, meanwhile, is Sept. 7.

Gaming facilities and race tracks in Kentucky can apply for licenses beginning Tuesday.
