How do the Barstool promo code and free bets work?
Sportsbooks all use slightly different language for their promotions, and we have already covered them in-depth.
Here’s how the first bet will work at Barstool.
- If your first bet wins: you keep the winnings and your deposit
- If your first bet loses: you’ll get refunded in bonus cash (aka free bets) equal to that first wager.
Let’s use an example for Monday Night Football between the 49ers and Rams, as both teams look to right the ship a bit after disappointing starts.
You place $300 on 49ers moneyline at +110, where Barstool has it priced on Monday morning.
- If the 49ers win: You profit $330, and keep the original $300.
- If the 49ers lose: You’ll get $300 in bonus cash (aka free bets).
Let’s say that the 49ers lose, and so you’ve got the $300 back in free bets to use on another game. You don’t have to use all the bonus cash on one bet, but we’ll do so just for the example.
Let’s say you take Colts moneyline against the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. They’re priced at around +130 as of Monday morning.
- If the Colts win: You’ll get $390, and you keep the $300 in bonus cash, which is pretty rare among sportsbook offers. Normally you don’t get to keep the stake.
- If the Colts lose: You end up with nothing.
You must use your bonus cash within 30 days, or it will be revoked. And you cannot wager on anything longer than -200 odds, or else your bonus cash won’t convert to real cash (but you want to use your free bets on longshots, anyway). That means a -150 bet is OK, but -300 isn’t.

How to Use Your Risk-Free Bets
The optimal way to use your risk-free bets, mathematically anyway, is on plus-money wagers. That’s because you’re getting much more expected value from +250 or +500 wagers — the higher the line, the more value.
But not everyone wants to squander their big free bets on longshots, even if it’s mathematically optimal.
Here are a few ways to use your risk-free bet at Barstool Sportsbook on Monday Night Football and beyond.
