The second Premier Lacrosse League game on Friday night features a battle between two 2-1 teams. The Boston Cannons face the Utah Archers with the game priced as a pick ‘em at most sportsbooks. The over/under is at 25.5 after opening at 25 on DraftKings earlier last week.

These teams are relatively even on paper, but I think Utah will be able to come away with the win in what I expect to be a high-scoring affair. The Archers haven’t looked overly dominant in their three games, fending off Philly and Carolina in wins and losing to Denver following a fourth-quarter collapse. Yet, I’m still extremely high on this team and think they have a great chance to repeat as PLL champions.
The Utah defense has relied a bit too much on goaltender Brett Dobson, but the return of 2021 PLL Defender of the Year Graeme Hossack should provide some stability to this young defense. While I expect Boston to have success against Utah’s defense, I don’t think the Cannons defense will be able to contend with the amount of offensive weapons the Archers have. Boston struggled mightily against New York’s highly efficient offense and I wasn’t too impressed with its play against Philadelphia either. While these teams haven’t played each other since last June, I expect a similar result to the Archers’ 16-13 win last season. Boston will find a way to put up points and help push this total over 25.5, but I think Utah will ultimately be able to outlast the Cannons.

This week, BetMGM is allowing bettors to parlay moneyline/spread and totals. While I usually caution against parlays in lacrosse, I think a Utah win and Over 25.5 are correlated. I recommend betting 0.2 units on the combo of Archers -1.5 and Over 25.5 at +350 for a little extra payout if both these bets hit.
