Check out all my picks and analysis below for the 2025 Belmont Stakes.
2025 Belmont Stakes Picks, Predictions
Belmont Stakes Exacta: 7,6
Top Pick: #8 Journalism (3-1). The deserving morning-line favorite comes in with the highest last out Beyer Speed Figure (102). While he looks to be the most-talented horse in the field, he’s only beat 12 horses in his last three starts combined. He will need to beat 18 others in the Derby. He’s bred top and bottom to get the distance and has a ferocious closing kick. For Journalism, it will all come down to the trip.
Underneath: #6 Baeza (4-1) ran third to Sovereignty and Journalism in the Kentucky Derby and second to Journalism in the Santa Anita Derby. He had traffic trouble in the Derby but still finished with interest. He should sit closer to the pace and have first run.
#1 Hill Road (10-1) won the Peter Pan last time out after stumbling at the start. He will need to improve off that race to compete with these, but he should get the pace to run into.
2025 Belmont Stakes Day Picks: Predictions for Saturday’s Races
- Race 6 – Win: #2 May Day Ready
- Race 6 – Pick 3: 2,5,6 / 6 / 1,4
- Race 7 – Win: #6 Mullikin
- Race 9 – Win: #3 Our Shot
- Race 9 – Pick 3: 2,3,9 / 1 / 10
- Race 10 – Win: #1 Zulu Kingdom
- Race 10 – Pick 3: 1 / 10 / 2,3,9
- Race 11 – Win: #10 Chancer McPatrick
- Race 13 – Exacta: 7 / 6
Race 6
Top Pick Pick: #2 May Day Ready (9-2) is making her first start as a three year old. She ran a strong second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf last fall. If she’s able to take a step forward as a three year old she’s a serious contender.
Underneath: #6 Nitrogen (1-1) hasn’t lost as a three year old, with four wins from four starts. That said, only two horses have come back to win, so not sure the quality she has faced up to this point.
#5 Opulent Restraint (8-1) will be the pace without much pressure. She was extremely game last time after #8 Laurelin had her dead to rights but Opulent Restraint was game and fought back on the inside.
Race 7
Top Pick: #6 Mullikin (2-1) second off the layoff and ran an excellent race last time out. Nysos, who ran third, came back to win and Banishing, who ran second, ran well next out, too. There isn’t as much pace pressure in here. Jockey Flavien Prat will be able to sit a perfect stalking trip and will use the post draw to his advantage.
Race 9
Top Pick: #3 Our Shot (8-1) has run well on the Saratoga turf. Jockey Luis Saez knows him well, has guided him to three of his highest Beyer Speed Figures and has two wins and two seconds from four mounts on him.
Underneath: #9 Ag Bullet (7-2) lost as the favorite last time out, but maybe he just doesn’t like the Churchill Downs turf course as he hasn’t run well there in either of his tries. He’s never run at Saratoga, so who knows how he will take to this turf course. He tends to be a boom-or-bust horse with six wins and two thirds from 11 career turf starts.
#2 Think Big (6-5) has shown he loves the turf with four wins from four career turf starts. He has put up back to back triple-digit Beyer Speed figures as well. He would be ranked higher here, but there’s not a ton of value at 6-5.
Race 10
Top Pick:#1 Zulu Kingdom (6-5) has won five of his six lifetime starts, is a perfect 3/3 at the distance and has won his only start at Saratoga. All systems go.
Race 11
Top Pick: #10 Chancer McPatrick (4-1) turns back in distance after being on the Kentucky Derby trail earlier this year. He gets back to a one turn race where he’s a perfect 3 for 3. There’s plenty of pace for him to run into here and jockey Flavien Prat will be able to get him out in the clear to make his run late.
Race 12
Top Pick: #9 Far Bridge (3-1) comes in winning both of his starts this year. He has won half of his lifetime starts and has one win and two thirds from three starts at Saratoga. His versatile running style will come in handy here as he should get the jump on the deep closers.
Underneath: #2 Integration (9-2) had traffic the entire way around last time out. He gets an upgrade in jock to Flavien Prat this time who always seems to put his horses in a position to win. He’s lost to #6 Spirit of St. Louis in two of his last three starts
#3 Highway Robber (6-1) always seems to find a way to be in it at the end having four wins two seconds and two thirds from ten starts on the turf. He ran a career best Beyer Speed figure last time out with a 100.
