Saturday Four-balls Odds & Pairings

The Ryder Cup continues on Saturday morning with foursomes (alternate shot) at 1:35 a.m. ET. Team Europe jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead in foursomes as they swept Team USA in the first session.

The Europeans followed the dominant first session by winning the four-ball session 2.5-1.5 as McIlroy and Fitzpatrick won 5&3 over Morikawa and Schauffele. Overall, Europe leads the United States 6.5 to 1.5 entering play on Saturday.

Consequently, the Europeans have become heavy favorites at -600 on the three-way moneyline to win the Ryder Cup, while the Americans are +600, and a tie is +1600.

Team USA and Team Europe each have announced their four two-man teams for the first session on Saturday, and here are the opening two-way moneyline (draw no bet) prices via bet365.

Ryder Cup Preview

The 44th Ryder Cup begins on Friday morning at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.

Team USA has been favored throughout the calendar year to win the Ryder Cup over Team Europe up until this week. The USA was once favored as high as -200, but the Americans now carry a +115 price on the three-way moneyline on bet365 entering the start of the Ryder Cup.

The Europeans are -105 to win the Ryder Cup while a tie is +1100.

Each team features 12 players with a mix of automatic qualifiers and captain’s picks.

Team USA’s automatic qualifiers included Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele. Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas were selected as Zach Johnson’s captain’s picks.

For Luke Donald’s Team Europe, the automatic qualifiers were Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland, Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. They are joined by Donald’s six captain’s picks: Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Nicolai Højgaard, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Sepp Straka.

Overall, the USA leads Europe 27-14 in the all-time Ryder Cup series dating back to 1927.

The Americans won the most recent Ryder Cup in 2021 by a score of 19-9 as Steve Stricker’s Team USA defeated Padraig Harrington’s Team Europe at Whistling Straits. This was a historic blowout as the Americans tied the largest Ryder Cup margin of victory since 1975.

While the Americans are looking to retain the Ryder Cup, history says that won’t be easy. The Europeans have won six consecutive home Ryder Cups dating back to 1993, including most recently at Le Golf National in 2018 when they defeated the Americans 17.5-10.5.

If the two teams were to tie at 14 points each, then the United States of America would retain the Ryder Cup.

The Ryder Cup opening ceremony and pairings announcement will take place on Thursday, Sept. 28, on Golf Channel at 10 a.m. ET.

On Friday and Saturday, the Europeans and Americans will compete in two different sessions each day, with four two-man matches per session – meaning four golfers for each team will sit per session.

Friday and Saturday morning will feature foursomes (also known as alternate shot) as the first session, starting at 1:30 a.m. ET each day.

Friday and Saturday afternoon will feature four-ball (also known as best ball) sessions starting at approximately 6:30 a.m. ET.

After a total of 16 points are awarded over the first two days, the Ryder Cup concludes on Sunday when all 12 players on each team will compete in singles matches for the final 12 points.

Course Preview

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club is a 7,181-yard par-71 in Rome. Jim Fazio originally designed the course, but Tom Fazio II and the European Golf Design completed a redesign from 2018-2021 in preparation for the Ryder Cup.

The course features four par-3s, 11 par-4s and three par-5s. Three of the par-4s are drivable, and all three par-5s are under 600 yards, so there will be plenty of exciting risk-reward opportunities tailored for match play.
