On This Date in Sports Betting History: March 29

There are no sports being played on March 29, 2020. There were, however, sports being played on this date last year.

And in 2018. And in 2017. And … you get it.

With nothing to bet on during this pandemic period, let’s to take a trip down memory lane and relive the best sports betting moments on this date in history.

March 29, 1999: UConn vs. Duke, National Championship

  • Spread: Duke -9.5

Despite both being listed as 1-seeds, UConn and Duke are not on the same level according to oddsmakers. That all proves to be irrelevant, however.

The outright win as a 9.5-point dog is tied with Villanova’s 1985 win over Georgetown as the largest underdog win in a title game dating back to at least 1965.

March 29, 1976: Michigan vs. Indiana, National Championship

  • Spread: Indiana -6

Indiana comes into this game undefeated (31-0), and laying six points, walks away with an easy 86-68 win.

Forty-four years later, the 1976 Hoosiers are still the most recent team to pull off the undefeated season.
