LAFC vs. Chelsea Pick, Betting Analysis
On paper, this looks like a mismatch. Chelsea is the heavy favorite and should dominate from start to finish.
The Blues came out on top in their fair share of mismatches on their way to winning the Europa Conference League. They scored an average of three goals per game in that tournament, 2.2 more than their opponents. Chelsea will likely net a few goals when they take on LAFC. Enzo Maresca’s side were able to overpower Real Betis in the second half of their last competitive match, netting four goals in the process. It’s difficult to see how the MLS outfit will be able to contend with the Blues’ expensively assembled squad.
Chelsea averaged a whopping 65% possession in the Conference League. They saw the lion’s share of the ball in all of their matches in that competition. This clash with LAFC should play out in a similar fashion. Maresca’s men will be in the ascendancy from the off. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez do the work in midfield so Cole Palmer can thrive. Palmer assisted two goals against Betis and holds the key to unlocking Steve Cherundolo’s deep defense here.
Los Angeles FC’s best chance of winning is on the counter. They have pace in wide areas, but the passing will need to be incisive and accurate if they are to play through Chelsea’s high press. Nathan Ordaz and Denis Bouanga pose a threat, but they will have limited opportunities to make their mark.
A win for LAFC would be one of the biggest shocks of the group stage. They will be hoping that fatigue is an issue with Chelsea coming into the Club World Cup on the back of a long season. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is midway through their MLS campaign.
LAFC vs. Chelsea Picks, Parlay
Leg 1: Chelsea Moneyline
Leg 2: Both Teams to Score
Leg 3: Over 3.5 Saves for Hugo Lloris
Enzo Maresca’s side enters this tournament on a high, having won eight out of nine recent competitive matches and outscoring opponents by a wide margin. Their dismantling of Real Betis in the Conference League final was just the latest evidence of their attacking cohesion. With Cole Palmer in creative form and new striker Liam Delap looking to impress, their average of 20 shots per game sounds like a promise of goals and dominance.
Despite this, Chelsea have shown they are vulnerable even when in control. The Premier League saw them concede an average of 1.13 goals per game, with Both Teams To Score – Yes in 22 out of 38 games (11 clean sheets). Meanwhile, Los Angeles FC comes into this clash on a nine-game unbeaten run, averaging 2.34 goals per game in this stretch. They will rely on Denis Bouanga (11 goal involvements in 9 games) to get them on the scoreboard in their home soil.
We are also betting on Hugo Lloris to make at least four saves. LAFC’s goalkeeper is averaging 2.5 saves in their last ten matches. However, Chelsea represents a massive step up in terms of the quality of the opposition. The Frenchman used to captain Tottenham, Chelsea’s local rivals, so he will be keen to put in a good display here.
