The first game of this World Series rematch had it all as the Yankees struck early, but then the Dodgers rallied late against Max Fried. As for tonight’s matchup, we should see the Yankees get off to a similar start.
We know by now the Yankees are perhaps the most potent lineup in baseball, as they lead the majors in barrel rate and average exit velocity. Those metrics translate to offense in any park, not just at Yankee Stadium.
A bevy of injuries to the Dodgers’ starting rotation has put them in a tough spot this month. Tonight, the woes will continue with Landon Knack on the mound.
Knack has been pummelled in his five starts, coming in with a 5.22 ERA and no signs of improvement. He ranks in the second percentile in hard-hit rate allowed and seventh in barrel rate.
Knack is the perfect guy for the Yankees to mash against, and with his leash shorter than other starters, all of the Bronx Bombers’ damage should be done in the first five innings.

While I gave the Yankees lineup a ton of love above, the Dodgers are one lineup that outranks them in every expected statistical category. They are the deepest lineup in baseball.
We saw last night how they can rally in a hurry with power littered throughout the lineup. However, I’m counting on another slow start the first few times through the order, as they’ll have to contend with a surging Will Warren.
Warren was dubbed the next Michael King. He transitioned to a starter, maximizing his electric stuff.
May has been much better for Warren. He has a 2.70 ERA through five starts and has recorded 41 strikeouts over 26.2 innings.
He’s still due for plenty of positive regression, as his xERA and FIP are well below his season ERA of 4.09. If he can continue to get ahead of hitters, we should see his shine on a big stage tonight.
Yankees vs Dodgers Prediction, Betting Analysis
It doesn’t get much better than Yankees vs. Dodgers, and the early innings of this matchup are intriguing as the pitching edge is clear, but the price has yet to reflect it.
The Yankees are just about the worst possible matchup for Landon Knack, and they should provide plenty of early run support for Will Warren, who has shown his upside this past month.
Back the Yankees to be up halfway through this one.
