Logan Webb is having a really nice season across the board, but especially in the strikeout department.

Compared to last season, his numbers are up dramatically, and I think that’ll continue tonight. There are quite a few hitters in the projected Tigers’ lineup who can strike out at the clip we need, and I think Webb will be able to get us to (at least) six.

Pick: Logan Webb Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-145)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Dylan Wilkerson’s Braves vs Phillies Best Bet: Expect Runs Early”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”First 5 Innings Over 4.5 (+100)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/atl.png” awayname=”Atlanta Braves” awayslug=”atlanta-braves” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-philadelphia-phillies.png” homename=”Philadelphia Phillies” homeslug=”philadelphia-phillies” date=”Tuesday, May 27″ time=”6:45 p.m. ET” network=”TBS” bookname=”DraftKings ” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/477013_DraftKings@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”draftkings”][/gameheader]

Spencer Strider is back on the bump for the Braves, making his third start since returning from his UCL injury last season.

In his most recent start, Strider went 4 1/3 innings and gave up four earned runs, including a home run. He only tallied three strikeouts and has just eight on the season. Aside from his struggles this season, Strider also has some poor matchups against the Phillies. Nick Castellanos, Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh have all gone yard multiple times against Strider, which increases the variability in the high-scoring scoring environment.

We also see some variability with Ranger Suárez. Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley both have multiple home runs against Suárez, raising the scoring ceiling for this game.

Pick: First 5 Innings Over 4.5 (+100)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Charlie Wright’s Braves vs Phillies Best Bet: This Line is Too High”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Spencer Strider Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-115)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/atl.png” awayname=”Atlanta Braves” awayslug=”atlanta-braves” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-philadelphia-phillies.png” homename=”Philadelphia Phillies” homeslug=”philadelphia-phillies” date=”Tuesday, May 27″ time=”6:45 p.m. ET” network=”TBS” bookname=”bet365″ bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/859377_Bet365@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”bet365″][/gameheader]

This is more like a vintage Strider number, and he’s not that guy right now. Strider’s velocity is down compared to his two starts in 2024 and it’s down even more from his full season of work in 2023.

Strider’s typically overwhelming fastball sat at 95 mph against Washington in his most recent start and he tossed a few at 93 mph in his final inning. Strider’s 98 Stuff+ on the heater is a career low, and that’s a metric that is reliable quickly. The 99 4-seamers he has thrown over two starts is more than enough of a sample size to judge the pitch.

The Phillies are one of the more difficult strikeout matchups for right-handed pitchers as they have the third-lowest strikeout rate vs. right handers over the past 30 days and are top 10 in OPS and wOBA in that span.

Strider’s outing against the Nationals was only his second start of the season, and it was his first after a month-long absence due to a hamstring injury. He was capped at 75 pitches, and it seemed to be a firm limit as he came out for the fifth inning, walked the first hitter, then got the next one to fly out. Atlanta then went to the bullpen. The abrupt exit made it pretty clear the Braves had a pitch-count max in mind. It would be surprising to see Strider throw 90+ pitches in this one.

Pick: Spencer Strider Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-115)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Brit Devine’s Twins vs Rays Best Bet: Trust the Twins”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Twins Moneyline (-120)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/mind.png” awayname=”Minnesota Twins” awayslug=”minnesota-twins” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-tampa-bay-rays.png” homename=”Tampa Bay Rays” homeslug=”tampa-bay-rays” date=”Tuesday, May 27″ time=”7:05 p.m. ET” network=”MLB.TV” bookname=”FanDuel” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/122955_FanDuelSportsBook@1x.jpg” bookreviewslug=”fanduel”][/gameheader]

Even with some injuries in the lineup, I have the Twins projected as the much better team in this matchup.

They have a clear starting pitching advantage with Joe Ryan on the mound against Taj Bradley. Ryan has given up one earned run or fewer in seven of his 10 starts, while Bradley has allowed at least two earned runs in all but one of his 10 starts.

Even with a few injuries, the Twins’ lineup also looks better to me. And with the best bullpen in baseball, they also have a significant advantage there, even with the Rays having a solid bullpen themselves. Usually, the teams I perceive with advantages in all three aspects come in at around -150 (or worse), and we are getting this at -125 by betting it early.

I would play this to -140 to win two units.

Pick: Twins Moneyline (-120)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Brit Devine’s Pirates vs Diamondbacks Best Bet: Back the D’backs”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Diamondbacks -1.5 (-125)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/pit.png” awayname=”Pittsburgh Pirates” awayslug=”pittsburgh-pirates” homelogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/ari.png” homename=”Arizona Diamondbacks” homeslug=”arizona-diamondbacks” date=”Tuesday, May 27″ time=”9:40 p.m. ET” network=”MLB.TV” bookname=”BetMGM” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/779359_BetMGM800x200@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”betmgm”][/gameheader]

The Pirates have been one of the worst teams in the league this season against right-handed pitching, so it should be smooth sailing for the Diamondbacks with Corbin Burnes on the mound.

The Pirates are starting Mike Burrows, who will be making his second start of the season, and while his minor league stuff has been decent this season, he got smacked around by the Brewers in his first start. The Diamondbacks have the highest wOBA of any team against right-handed pitching this season and also get to beat up on a bottom-tier bullpen once Burrows leaves the game.

I see this game playing out very similarly to yesterday’s 5-0 Arizona victory.

Pick: Diamondbacks -1.5 (-125)
