The books are giving too much credit to Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill.
Megill’s surface stats look amazing (1.09 ERA), but his underlying metrics, while good, suggest there is almost no chance he can continue his current form.
James Wood has easily been the best Nationals bat this season and he has the best numbers of anyone on the team against right-handed pitching dating back to the start of last season.
He has a solid run-scorer batting in front of him and some decent bats right behind him as well. To me, this should be near even money.
Pick: James Wood Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (+130)

Padres starter Randy Vasquez has an insanely low 8.9% K% through five starts.
You’d have to combine his last three starts to get to four strikeouts. Among 135 pitchers with at least 20 innings this season, Vasquez ranks 134th in SwStr% and 135th in CSW%.
Vasquez had a meager 14.4% K% over 98 innings last season, so this isn’t a new trend. He’s just taken it to new heights this season.
The Rays are a solid matchup. They’ve struck out at the 11th-highest rate vs. RHPs this season.
The big key is the lefties. Their projected lineup has six lefties in it (including switch hitters). I wouldn’t be surprised if the platoon-happy Rays force seven lefties into the lineup, with Travis Jankowski potentially slotting in for Christopher Morel.
After posting an 8.1% K% against lefties last season, Vasquez has struck out just one in 53 plate appearances. That’s a 1.9% K%.
Pick: Randy Vasquez Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-135)

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Max Meyer Over 16.5 Outs (-130)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-miami-marlins.png” awayname=”Miami Marlins” awayslug=”miami-marlins” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-seattle-mariners.png” homename=”Seattle Mariners” homeslug=”seattle-mariners” date=”Sunday, April 27″ time=”4:10 p.m. ET” network=”MLB.TV” bookname=”DraftKings ” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/477013_DraftKings@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”draftkings”][/gameheader]

Max Meyer has been one of the breakout pitchers of this season.
He has a pristine 2.10 ERA, a massive 33.9% K%, and four quality starts in five outings. Meyer has gone at least 5 2/3 innings in every start. He’s thrown 90+ pitches in all but one start, and the one miss was an 82-pitch outing against the Mets that was actually his longest of the season (6 1/3 innings).
Meyer has done everything you’d want to see in an improved pitcher. He added one mph on his fastball; he expanded his arsenal to five pitches, with the addition of a sinker and sweeper.
Technically, he had those pitches last season, but functionally, they were absent. Meyer threw just 18 sinkers and one sweeper, the latter likely being a tracking error.
To top it all off, Meyer has a dominant swing-and-miss pitch. His slider is his most-used pitch, and it has a ridiculous 53.5% whiff rate.
The Mariners are not an easy matchup. They’ve jumped up to the top five in OPS, wOBA and wRC+ against RHP after obliterating Connor Gillispie on Saturday.
T-Mobile Park is typically a death sentence for offenses, especially vs. RHP, but the Mariners are surviving there so far (13th in wOBA, 14th in OPS). Gillispie getting bombed meant the Marlins had to use several relievers, so they could use some length out of Meyer.
Pick: Max Meyer Over 16.5 Outs (-130)

Teoscar Hernandez has some of the best numbers against left-handed pitchers that you will find, and his high strikeout rate could be mitigated against a low strikeout pitcher like Bailey Falter.
The Pirates‘ bullpen has been one of the lower-strikeout units in the league so far. There will be opportunity for Hernandez to put the ball in play, and good things tend to happen when he makes contact.
Pick: Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)
