[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Bruce Marshall’s Rockies vs Rays Best Bet: Target the Over”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Over 8 (-105)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/col.png” awayname=”Colorado Rockies” awayslug=”colorado-rockies” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-tampa-bay-rays.png” homename=”Tampa Bay Rays” homeslug=”tampa-bay-rays” date=”Friday, March 28″ time=”4:10 p.m. ET” network=”FanDuel” bookname=”bet365″ bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/859377_Bet365@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”bet365″][/gameheader]

Here’s a new adventure in Tampa Bay: the Rays will be playing at the Yankees‘ spring training and minor-league facility, Steinbrenner (nee Legends) Field, this season, in Tampa right across from the Bucs’ Raymond James Stadium.

When considering a proper venue for the new baseball park in the area, we can only hope that the Rays figure out they have to be on the Tampa, and not St. Pete side of the bay.

We’ll see how it goes in this temporary venue, but for the opener, we suggest the Rockies hold onto their hats, as starter Kyle Freeland was battered mercilessly last March and April, allowing 25 runs (23 earned) and 32 hits across just 15 2/3 IP (that equated to a 13.21 ERA). When the dust settled in October, Freeland had a 5.98 ERA on the road.

Ryan Pepiot looks a better bet on the Rays’ side, but he’s not lasting beyond five innings at the most, and it will be up to Kevin Cash’s bullpen to try and keep this score below eight runs.

Pick: Over 8 (-105)

We like the thought of the Orioles as an underdog after their bats looked to be midseason form on Opening Day.

That 12-2 romp past the Blue Jays was comprehensive, as the Birds bashed six homers, including two each by Adley Rutschman and Cedric Mullins, while piling up 14 hits in the rout as there was nowhere for the Toronto pitchers to hide.

After starter Jose Berrios was touched for six runs in five innings, the bullpen allowed another six over the remainder of the game.

Charlie Morton makes his Baltimore debut, likely to get some run support, before he’s out of there after five innings max.

O’s manager Brandon Hyde, however, has a bit more confidence in his relievers, who kept Toronto off of the board in the final three innings on Thursday.

Pick: Orioles Moneyline (+110)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Kyle Murray’s Orioles vs Blue Jays Best Bet: Vlad Jr. Total Bases”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/bal.png” awayname=”Baltimore Orioles” awayslug=”baltimore-orioles” homelogo=”https://static.sprtactn.co/teamlogos/mlb/100/tor.png” homename=”Toronto Blue Jays” homeslug=”toronto-blue-jays” date=”Friday, March 28″ time=”7:07 p.m. ET” network=”Apple TV+” bookname=”BetMGM” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/779359_BetMGM800x200@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”betmgm”][/gameheader]

I love this spot here for Vlad Jr. for kind of a niche reason, but hear me out.

Vlad Jr. is one of the best pure hitters in baseball; he is very patient and does a great job and putting the ball in play. Opening Day was a perfect example as he drew two walks.

However, walks don’t help us here.

This is a great matchup because Charlie Morton only walked 5% of right-handed hitters in 2024. He also allowed a .213 ISO and a .338 wOBA to that side of the plate; Vlad Jr. hit RHPs to a tune of .218 ISO and a .402 wOBA.

Pick: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)

[subheader sizedown=”false” text=”Kyle Murray’s Red Sox vs Rangers Best Bet: Wilyer Abreu Hitter Combo”][/subheader]

[gameheader haspick=”true” picktext=”Wilyer Abreu Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (+100)” league=”mlb” awaylogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-boston-red-sox.png” awayname=”Boston Red Sox” awayslug=”boston-red-sox” homelogo=”https://images.actionnetwork.com/blog/2023/08/2023-mlb-logo-texas-rangers.png” homename=”Texas Rangers” homeslug=”texas-rangers” date=”Friday, March 28″ time=”8:05 p.m. ET” network=”MLB.TV” bookname=”DraftKings ” bookprimarylogo=”https://assets.actionnetwork.com/477013_DraftKings@1x.png” bookreviewslug=”draftkings”][/gameheader]

By Kyle Murray

This is a pretty surprising number here as a lot of the other top Red Sox players have lines of 2.5 H+R+RBI in this matchup against Jack Leiter.

Sure, Abreu is liking going to hit lower in the order, but he is also a big time power bat as evidenced by his two homer game on Opening Day.

He also added another hit and a walk, and that was in a much more difficult matchup.

Last season, Abreu hit RHPs to a tune of .225 ISO and .357 wOBA.

Pick: Wilyer Abreu Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (+100)

Jack Flaherty is back in Detroit after a detour thru Los Angeles at the trade deadline.

It would net Flaherty a World Series ring, but he’s come full circle, back to the Tigers this season — and for good measure pitching against the Dodgers in his hometown on Friday night.

The Tigers lost close on Thursday because of two swings by Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani, but Detroit manager A.J. Hinch has to be encouraged that his team clawed from behind against the Dodger bullpen with a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning. That L.A. bullpen might not be as airtight as manager Dave Roberts would like.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets his second start after working one of the Tokyo games vs. the Cubs but only went five innings, which is likely his limit again on Friday night.

Pick: Tigers +1.5 (-115)
