This Panthers season will be judged by one thing: Young’s progression in his second NFL season.
Dave Canales is the new head coach, coming to Carolina after being the Seahawks QBs coach in 2022 and Buccaneers offensive coordinator last season. With those teams, he helped revitalize Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield’s careers, so can he do the same with Young?
All of the Panthers’ failures last season cannot be put on Young’s shoulders. His supporting cast was subpar and the Panthers fired Frank Reich halfway through the season.
A Year 2 breakout isn’t out of the question. The Panthers added to their offensive line in free agency and added wide receiver Diontae Johnson in a trade with the Steelers and also drafted WR Xavier Leggette and running back Jonathan Brooks. Veteran Adam Thielen is still in town and proved he has something left in the tank as the only consistent playmaker last season for the Panthers.

According to Action Network’s Sean Koerner, the Panthers will face the fifth-easiest schedule in the NFL this season. The three easiest schedules belong to the Saints, Buccaneers and Falcons, which speaks to the quality on display in the NFC South.
