The 3-point contest has become the marquee event of Saturday night. While Stephen Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu might have more buzz, there’s still a traditional 3-point contest happening at All Star Weekend. Damian Lillard (+390) is the favorite to win the 3-point contest after taking home the hardware in Utah last year.

Here’s a look at each shooter in the field for the NBA 3-point contest.

Damian Lillard

Lillard is a three-time participant in the NBA 3-Point Contest (2014, 2019, 2023) and the reigning champion. He is a career 37% 3-point shooter, but this season he’s shooting just 34.1% from deep, the second-worst mark in his career. Lillard has hit 12 shots from 30 feet or farther this season and shot 12-of-35 on those shots before the break.

Tyrese Haliburton

Haliburton’s unorthodox release is not longer a topic of conversation as it’s clear he’s a knockdown shooter. In his short career, Haliburton has hit 40.6% of his 3-pointers — he’s never shot below 40% — and his attempts have steadily risen each year. Haliburton had a 31-point first round last year but fell short of the trophy in the final round.

Trae Young

Young has competed in two 3-point contests in the past but hasn’t won yet. This season, Young is hitting 37.1% of his 3-pointers this season, which is his second-highest 3-point percentage in his career. He’s been hot over his past 10 games, hitting 40.7% of his 3s over that span.

Malik Beasley

Beasley is on pace for a career year in terms of his 3-point shooting percentage. He enters the 3-point contest shooting 44.4% from deep on 6.5 attempts per game and is shooting 51.1% on corner 3s, according to NBA Advanced Stats.

Karl-Anthony Towns

Towns won the 3-point contest in Cleveland during 2022 All-Star weekend as a +1200 underdog. The self proclaimed “greatest big man shooter of all time” is having his best season from the 3-point line. Towns is shooting 43.7% from deep, the fifth time in his career that he’s hit at least 40% of his 3s.

Jalen Brunson

Brunson is an All-Star for the first time this season and he’s shooting 41.1% on 3s this season on a career-high 6.5 attempts from beyond the arc. Among the 18 players who take at least 4.0 pull-up 3-pointers this season, Brunson ranks second at 38.8%, better than any other player in the field.

Donovan Mitchell

Mitchell is statistically the worst shooter of this group, with a 36.1% 3-point percentage this season. (His career-best is 38.6%.) Mitchell takes a 9.1 3-point attempts per game and an overwhelming majority of those shots (8.7) are above-the-break attempts — he shoots 36.3% on those shots.

Lauri Markkanen

Markkanen is back in the 3-point contest after competing last year in Utah. The NBA’s reigning Most-Improved Player is shooting a career-high percentage from beyond the arc at 40.3% this season. Despite his great numbers, Markkanen has the longest odds of any player in the field.
