Matthieu Pavon Becomes Fourth Straight PGA Tour Winner at 100-1 Odds or Longer

There must be something in the water (hazards) this year on the PGA Tour, as golf saw its fourth straight massive longshot come away with a win this week.

Frenchman Matthieu Pavon was +15000 at bet365 — and as long as +20000 at some books — before the Farmers Insurance Open this week at Torrey Pines, yet he walked away with the victory thanks to a 3-under final round that sent him to -13 for the tournament.

Beyond the history Pavon made for his country, this was also just the rookie’s 11th career PGA Tour start.

Pavon bested Danish golfer Nicolai Hรธjgaard by one stroke at the legendary course.

Just last week, amateur Nick Dunlap won as a 300-1 to 400-1 pre-tournament longshot at the American Express, becoming the first amateur to win on Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991. Dunlap was preceded by wins from Grayson Murray (+52500) and Chris Kirk (+12500).

The wildest part? The four straight massive longshot wins have all been to start this PGA Tour season. It’s hard to imagine where this year in golf might go from here.
