I hope you enjoyed last week’s dry race at Richmond because rain is back in the NASCAR weather forecast Sunday at Michigan.
Today’s FireKeepers Casino 400 race is scheduled to go green at 2:30 p.m. ET (USA and Peacock) assuming, well, the rain cooperates.
As always, the timing of potential precipitation is key, so let’s go ahead and take a deeper dive into the updated NASCAR weather forecast for Michigan today.
NASCAR Weather Forecast for Michigan
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 60% chance of rain at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, so it’s not as if we’re facing a complete washout this afternoon.
In fact, the hourly forecast is almost 50/50 at this point.
Starting at 2 p.m. ET, there’s a 58% chance of rain in Brooklyn, Michigan, which then dips to 31% at 8 p.m. ET.
However, the problem for NASCAR is that if rain does fall heavily enough to soak the track this afternoon, the sheer size of Michigan International Speedway means it will take a very long time for jet dryers to ready the track surface.
And perhaps more importantly, there are also no lights at this track to run at night.
As a result, NASCAR does not have the luxury of delaying Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 into the evening even if rain does happen to clear out as the sun is setting at MIS.
Should today’s race get postponed, Monday’s weather forecast is very similar with a 60% chance of rain, as well.
According to live NASCAR odds, Christopher Bell is the race favorite to win at Michigan at +650, followed by Denny Hamlin (+700), William Byron (+750), Kyle Larson (+800) and Martin Truex Jr. (+800).
