Rapids Winger Max Alves Under Investigation in Sports Betting Operation

Colorado Rapids winger Max Alves is under investigation by the Brazilian Public Ministry.

According to court documents, Alves, 21, received money for being issued a yellow card during a match between the Rapids and the LA Galaxy last season.

Alves subbed in for teammate Diego Rubio in the 63rd minute and was issued the yellow card roughly two minutes later.

As of Thursday, May 10, Alves,a native of Brazil, has not been charged.

The Rapids issued a statement:

“We are aware of the reports regarding a Colorado Rapids player in connection with unlawful sports gambling. We take matters of this nature seriously and seek at all times to protect the integrity of the game. The player has been removed from all team activities while MLS conducts an investigation into this matter”

This is the latest gambling story sweeping the nation in both amateur and professional sports.

Recently, both Alabama baseball and Iowa baseball were under the microscope for separate incidents.
