College Football Picks Week 3: PRO Projection Edges on Various Totals including UCF vs. FAU and USC vs. Fresno State

Welcome to college football Week 3.

There are some massive inter-conference matchups on this week’s slate as well as some in-state rivalry games.

Action Network’s PRO projections have identified edges on the total in four games on this week’s slate. That includes some of the bigger matchups of the week like USC vs. Fresno State and Troy vs. Appalachian State, the host of College Gameday.

Let’s get right into the picks.

College Football Picks for Week 3

*College football odds as of Saturday Morning

Florida Atlantic vs. Central Florida Pick

7:30 p.m. ET | CBS Sports Network

Central Florida and Florida Atlantic will battle to find out who is the best Florida football school that doesn’t play in a major conference.

This is the biggest total edge on the entire slate.

The total opened at 59 and has shot up to 61.5 as of Friday evening. That’s good news for our PRO projections.

The PRO line is at 56.5. That gives under 61.5 an 8.8% edge against the number, giving it an A grade and the best total edge on the slate.

The pick: Under 61.5

Troy vs. Appalachian State Pick

3:30 p.m. ET | ESPN+

App State is coming off a massive win over Texas A&M in College Station.

The win was so big, in fact, that College Gameday has decided to go to Boone for the first time in the show’s history.

The buzz is palpable in Boone. And, lucky for us, there’s an edge on the total.

The total opened at 54.5 and has since shot down to 52.5. Even though it’s gone down two points, there is still an edge on the under.

Our PRO line is set at 48.5 in this game, giving the under a 5.9% edge against the number. That’s enough for a B grade.

The pick: Under 52.5

Colorado State vs. Washington State Pick

5 p.m. ET | Pac-12 Network

Washington State is also coming off an enormous win over Wisconsin this past weekend. And they get the opportunity to face Colorado State, which is coming off a loss to Middle Tennessee State as a 14-point favorite.

Two programs that are going in very different directions so far this season.

The total opened at 52.5 and is already up to 53.5. That’s good news, as we’ve identified an edge on the under.

Our PRO line sets this total at 49.5. That gives under 53.5 a 6.4% edge, making it the second-biggest total edge of the week.

The pick: Under 53.5

Fresno State vs. Southern California Pick

10.30 p.m. ET | FOX

This is one of the marquee games of the day. Fresno State has one of the best Group of 5 quarterbacks in the country in Jake Haener, and many have picked the Bulldogs to win the Mountain West.

Southern Cal has all of the momentum as they stormed past Stanford in the first test of Lincoln Riley’s tenure. Slowing down Haener, however, could be an even bigger test.

This total has gone through a roller coaster throughout the week. It opened at 72 and quickly shot up to as high as 74.5.

It’s slowly been coming down over the last couple of days and is currently at 72.5.

Keep your eye on the number throughout the day as it could easily go up again before kickoff.

Our PRO line projects this total at 69. At the moment, it’s only a 3.4% edge. But as the public comes in and moves that number up, there could be a significant edge on the total

The pick: Under 72.5
