Most people watched Scottie Scheffler take the stroll on 18 at Augusta as a mere formality.
With a 5-stroke lead standing on the 18th tee, it was just a matter of when, not if.
But for some golf bettors, it was a gut-wrenching experience.
Scheffler proceeded to hit the 18th green in two shots.
But the number of putts it took from there was of the utmost importance to some bettors.
Scheffler had his final-round total set at 70.5 on most sportsbooks. That would equate to 2-under par. Scheffler stood on 18 at 3-under for the day.
Most sportsbooks also had the winning score total set at 277.5, which would equate to 10.5-under par.

Barstool Sportsbook ran a promotion that had the winning score at -12 or better. Scheffler stood on 18 at -12 for the tournament.
By now, you can assume what happened.
Scheffler lagged the first putt up to makeable range. Then he missed a short putt.
No sweat for the round total or most winning score total unders, right? Professional golfers don’t miss many short putts.
Wrong.
Scheffler missed the putt and tapped the next one in. He four-putted, which resulted in a double bogey and a loss for all of the under bettors.
